A Legacy of Creativity & Wonder Lives On

Miss Kamilah Okafor Day 2024

Kamilah’s love of writing inspired her to action. She was active in service with her Sorority Sisters, a dedicated educator, and founding member of Fresno State Univerity’s creative writing alumni chapter. Kamilah is remembered as a women’s rights advocate, community and family builder, youth mentor, singer, creative writer, and friend of God. Today, we celebrate her legacy of wonder and creativity.

In her memory, donate to The Kamilah Okafor Legacy Award Fund. This Legacy Award was set up by her eight Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Kappa Omega Omega Chapter Spring 2017 co-initiates. The scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors from a Kern County school who plan to pursue a career in English, creative writing, or education. To date, over $5,000 has been awarded in scholarship.
